 4th of july parade

We proudly joined the Chico 4th of July Parade to celebrate not just our nation’s history, but the deep roots and enduring legacy of our own local landmark. Accompanied by a beautifully restored 1920 Studebaker Special Six and a group of volunteers in period attire, our presence honored the historical spirit of the Bidwell era.

We were touched by the enthusiastic support and warm conversations throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who came out and cheered on all the parade entries. Your energy and encouragement mean the world to us as we continue our mission to honor and preserve the legacy of Bidwell Mansion.

Stansbury Ice Cream Social | June 20

There’s nothing quite like a summer afternoon filled with ice cream, history, and good company! The Bidwell Mansion Association was thrilled to join our friends at the Stansbury Home Preservation Association for their annual Ice Cream Social—a beloved community event that brings history to life in the heart of Chico.

Guests of all ages stopped by to enjoy scoops of local ice cream, visit with costumed interpreters, and explore the beautiful Stansbury House grounds. Our BMA team joined in the fun, sharing stories, answering questions, and celebrating the strong bonds between Chico’s historic landmarks. We’re especially grateful for the opportunity to connect with visitors who have fond memories of the Bidwell Mansion and who continue to support its legacy.

Big thanks to the Stansbury House team for hosting such a meaningful event—and to everyone who came out to enjoy it with us!

Bidwell mansion: the stories we share | June 7

On June 7, the Chico History Museum opened Bidwell Mansion: The Stories We Share—a powerful exhibition created in partnership with the Bidwell Mansion Association to honor the legacy of the beloved landmark lost to arson in December 2024.

The exhibit brought together artwork, historic photos, family keepsakes, and personal reflections from community members who have long cherished the Mansion and its place in Chico’s story. From intimate memories of childhood visits to rare artifacts and photographs, the exhibition offered a heartfelt tribute to what the Mansion meant—and still means—to so many.

We were deeply grateful to the Chico History Museum for hosting this meaningful collaboration and to everyone who contributed to the exhibit. Your stories reminded us that while the structure may be gone, the memory of Bidwell Mansion lives on through the people it touched.

Festive gathering at the Stansbury House

Dr. Stansbury hosted his celebrated annual holiday gathering at his home, an event of warmth and tradition eagerly anticipated each year. Among the distinguished guests were General and Mrs. Bidwell, Mrs. Bidwell's sister, Mrs. Alexander, and their dear family friend, Mrs. Blake. Adding to the evening’s prestige was the presence of the renowned General Sherman, a close associate of General Bidwell. Society whispers declared it an occasion of unparalleled merriment and refinement!

We enjoyed a wonderful event that explored the fascinating story behind the ongoing restoration efforts at Bidwell Mansion. We gained a deeper appreciation for the work being done to preserve this historic landmark.

Guests were treated to a brief history of the mansion, which included discussions of its unique architectural details and the innovative techniques used during its construction. The presentation also highlighted the ongoing efforts to recreate and restore architectural elements to their original grandeur, preserving the mansion's historical integrity. Additionally, the careful process of cleaning and preserving some of the mansion's historic textiles provided fascinating insights into the meticulous work required to maintain these delicate pieces. Attendees were also treated to a display of artifacts related to the restoration, offering an up-close look at important elements of the mansion’s rich story.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this informative and enjoyable event! Stay tuned for more opportunities to connect with the history and preservation of Bidwell Mansion.
